Renge Miyauchi (voice of Kotori Koiwai) is about to start first grade at Asahigaoka Branch School, where her sister Kazuho (Kaori Nazuka) teaches. There are only three other students at the school until Hotaru Ichijo (Rie Murakawa), who has just moved to the countryside from Tokyo, becomes its fifth student.
