We love democracy, but few of us can explain why. That maybe the reason some autocrats pose as true democrats, and thesubdued can see dictatorship as the answer to their prayers. But agovernment “of the people, by the people” does not always makesound decisions “for the people”. It is contentious and unfair, andit cannot magically solve all the world’s problems – but it doeskeep tyrants at bay.
