Language teaching and learning requires motivation, self-confidence and strategies leading to effective learning and thus to the effective development of communicative proficiency. We therefore believe that by awakening self-confidence and motivation, we can be close to achieving educational goals. The challenge presented in this reflection is to teach the English language using the English words present in Citshwa as a motivating strategy. This means valuing the student's mother tongue in the educational process. If the student notices the appreciation of his or her identity, he or she develops self-confidence in learning the English language. The English vocabulary present in the Citshwa, if correctly explored and associated with creativity, reinforces motivation and arouses curiosity and interest, essential elements for sustainable learning.
