This is the second volume of my upright bass instruction method, The Bass Players Toolbox. While the first volume covered the lower positions below the break in the neck, this volume covers exercises that involve the thumb position. The modern bass player must not only be familiar with the high register, but is expected to be able to express himself throughout the full range of the instrument. Followed diligently, this instruction book will be an important aid in attaining that goal. Each of these exercises cover the thumb position first, then connect the lower and higher positions in a logical system that's easy to retain. I've also included material on jazz vocabulary, specifically, walking bass sequences over the Blues and I Got Rhythm that employ syncopations and drops. One area of the music that typically mystifies even the veteran bassist is the ending. I've included some standard endings over the I-II-V- I progression that can serve as a basis for the performer to develop his/her own variations.
