Why are there are so few women in public office in the enlightened climate of the United States? The root of this prejudice lies deep in our historical past but its unconscious impact is felt to this day. It is self-defeating for any society to discriminate against half its population. It is not only the females who suffer. It is damaging to any culture. Individuals need to challenge these biases and practices.
