Contributor Bio:  Pidgeon, William Born outside of Columbus, Ohio in 1818, William Pidgeon traveled extensively throughout the Mississippi Valley in the first half of the 19th Century, where he surveyed many Native American earthworks before their disappearance under the farmer's plow. In his 52nd year, Pidgeon was murdered by Indians who took offense to his work.
