Too many Americans hold tight to the fear-fed fallacy that our own nation was founded on Christianity. Our government has perpetuated this notion in a manner that undermines our Constitution, grossly mischaracterizing the role played by religion in our society. Raising Questions: Daring to Denounce the Religious Right to Defend Our Civil Rights examines stances presented by the Bible and our Constitution with respect to 23 controversies that either protect or threaten America's liberties. Topics range from foundational, "Separation of Church and State vs. the Supreme Court," to historical, "Temperance vs. Prohibition," to controversies still raging today including, "Abortion vs. Autonomy," "Guns & Free Exercise v. God & Duty, Honor, Country," and "Voting Rights vs Divine Right." Issues addressed include gender bias, free speech, freewill, same sex marriage, police powers, Blue laws, pornography, euthanasia, racism, environmental justice and more. Wright's purpose in examining the religious right and Catholicism juxtaposed with Supreme Court decisions is to seek justice, concluding the goal of a secular nation should be integrity--the difference between right and wrong as opposed to right and left.
