Although West is still within her late twenties she has experienced a fair share of trials and tribulation. She uses a series of mental visuals to aide in the various loop holes life tosses to her. After destining herself for greatness she was well aware that this discovery would come at a distasteful, yet beneficial price. Her quest sparked after graduating high school, and continued after joining the military. Regardless of age and gender there is a lesson to be learned in each obstacle we face. West uses her life as a direct observation of events while vividly overcoming everyone of them. She went from expressing selfishness and egotistical ways to showcasing transparency and humility.

In BEFORE & AFTER, Keishaura West encourages readers to reject old stubborn ways, anticipate life's lessons of good/bad, and be in tune with the transformation that is unfolding for the better. In each chapter, West forms chronological social occasions where negative considerations developed which forced her off balance and out of a state of complacency. During times of discomfort she trusted her process of personal evolution which has led, and currently leading to a gratifying position of self-preservation.
